Settlement can have more than one cause. Poorly compacted fill may continue to consolidate. Water can remove or soften supporting material. Freeze-thaw movement, tree roots, plumbing leaks and failed edges can change the correct repair. A contractor should connect the proposed material and injection pattern to what was observed, rather than treating every low corner alike.
What concrete lifting can and cannot do
Lifting places material below an existing slab and raises it toward a planned elevation. It may close part of a vertical difference, restore drainage or reduce a trip edge. The slab still keeps its age, surface wear, stains and most existing cracks. A cracked panel may move as separate pieces. A panel with severe spalling, failed reinforcement, poor geometry or no safe lifting path may be a replacement candidate.
The target is not always perfectly level. Outdoor concrete normally needs a controlled fall away from a building or toward an approved drainage route. Separate the lift from related work
Joint sealing, crack repair, surface grinding, downspout changes, drainage, excavation, replacement and landscaping are separate scope rows. Some may be necessary to protect the result, but they should not disappear inside one price. Ask who performs each item and what happens first.

Prepare useful evidence for an estimate
Take wide photos showing the complete slab and fixed edges. Add close images of cracks, joints and the lowest corner. After rain, record where water starts, where it crosses the concrete and where it exits. Note whether the movement changed slowly or after a plumbing, grading or construction event.
Measure only what can be measured safely. A straight board and ruler can show an edge difference, but they do not diagnose the base. Do not crawl beneath an unsupported slab or place hands in an active crack. Tell the estimator about buried utilities, radiant heat, drains or unknown lines.
What should a written quote contain?

Write one goal beside each box. Use short words. “Raise lip.” “Send water out.” “Meet next slab.” “Leave this panel.”
Ask the provider to mark the method beside each box. Add the holes and target. Then add water work, sealing and removal on their own lines.

Should I ask for mudjacking or foam first?

Can lifting remove every trip edge?
Not always. Adjacent fixed elevations, cracks, roots, steps and public right-of-way constraints can limit movement. The quote should state the target and any residual edge.
