Start with the problem you can see
Many homeowners begin with a driveway lip, but the same first check applies to any settled slab: identify what moved and what did not. A driveway lip at the garage, a sidewalk trip edge, a patio that holds water and a garage floor that has pulled away from a wall are different jobs.
Photograph the whole slab before zooming in. Include fixed edges such as a garage floor, curb, step, wall, drain or neighboring panel. Those edges can limit how far a slab should move.
Take three useful photos before requesting a quote
- Take one wide photo showing every affected panel and the nearby building or road edge.
- Take one close photo of the largest lip, crack or open joint.
- Take one photo showing downspouts, standing water, eroded soil or the direction rain travels.

Peoria weather and ground conditions are reasons to inspect, not diagnose
The Peoria area does not have one uniform soil profile. Illinois sources describe loess, glacial till, outwash, bottomland and terrace soils in the region.
