Garage and basement floors can settle as fill compacts or support is lost. They can also move with a wall, footing or larger building system. The first job is to separate a non-structural slab from structural movement before selecting a lifting material.
Is the floor a slab or part of the structure?
Identify walls, columns, footings, thickened edges, bearing points and attached steps. A floating floor slab and a load-bearing foundation do different jobs. Concrete lifting should not be presented as underpinning.

How should the floor be mapped?

A perfectly level target can be wrong around a floor drain. Ask for current and planned elevations. If a fixed wall, footing or threshold limits movement, state the residual slope or edge.
What access questions matter indoors?
The provider must reach the slab without creating a larger repair. Measure doors, stairs and narrow passages. Identify finished flooring, stored items, dust control, ventilation and the route for hoses or equipment.
Ask how injection holes will be placed and patched. A patch below future floor covering has different visual needs from a finished garage. State who removes and reinstalls flooring, baseboard, cabinets or equipment.
What about drains, pipes and radiant heat?
Locate known lines before drilling. Floor drains, sewer lines, water lines, radiant heat and electrical routes can affect the injection plan. Old plans and utility records may help, but the provider should state its locating assumption.
An active leak needs the correct trade before the void is filled. Lifting does not repair a pipe. If a drain is part of the target, record the planned fall and test method after work.
When may lifting fit?
Lifting may fit a serviceable slab with an isolated void and a safe target. Mudjacking can be considered when slurry equipment, holes and material placement fit. Polyurethane lifting can be compared for smaller ports or difficult access.
Ask how the method fits the floor, void, utilities and finish. The provider should state how cracked pieces are controlled and what happens if material travels into an unknown space.
When may replacement or another repair fit?
Replacement may be clearer for fragmented concrete, severe surface damage, failed reinforcement, major plumbing access or a new floor system that requires a different base. Grinding or a surface underlayment can help a finish problem when the slab is stable, but it does not fill a support void.
Structural movement, active water, unsafe wiring or damaged framing needs another professional. Write the sequence so the slab work does not cover evidence that another trade must inspect.
